Director General
The Secretariat is headed by its Director General and performs the routine functions of the Conference. It lays down directions for and brings focus to the speakers through effective engagement with partners and stakeholders, which would enable the Conference to be a louder, more collective voice of state legislatures and advocate for their priorities more coherently.
The Secretariat also serves as a Knowledge Center, from which administrative, research, and technical support are drawn to aid the Conference in this way. This makes available to the legislative speakers resources and expertise fundamental to the conceptualization of strategic and evidence-based policies and initiatives. In its role, the Secretariat will ensure that the work at the conference is underlain by sound analysis and oriented to its overall objectives.
The Secretariat also acts as a resource center that provides the speakers with access to timely and authoritative information on current policy issues. It is this sharing aspect, which most empowers state legislatures to enact laws more knowledgeably in the issues that affect their constituents.
It is by discharging these multifaceted mandates that the Secretariat strengthens the Conference as an important institution for harmonization of legislative agenda, collaboration, and, ultimately, improved governance and service delivery at the state level in Nigeria. The extent to which the Conference successfully leverages technical expertise and administrative capacity resident in the Secretariat will, therefore, be a significant factor in its overall effectiveness as a representative entity for state legislatures in Nigeria.
