THE CHAIRMAN PAID A COURTESY VISIT TO THE CHINESE AMBASSADOR TO NIGERIA, YU DUNHAI, AT THE CHINESE EMBASSY IN ABUJA

In a strategic move to modernize Nigeria’s sub-national governance, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria (CSSLN), recently paid a high-level courtesy visit to the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, at the Chinese Embassy in Abuja.

The meeting served as a pivotal platform for discussing bilateral cooperation aimed at enhancing the legislative efficiency of Nigeria’s 36 state assemblies.

The centerpiece of the discussion was the digital transformation of Nigeria’s legislative processes. Speaker Ogundoyin emphasized the CSSLN’s commitment to adopting global best practices to make state parliaments more transparent and accessible to the public.

The dialogue expanded beyond technology, touching on several critical pillars for national development:

  • Legislative Capacity Building: Training programs for lawmakers in legislative drafting and committee operations.
  • Infrastructure & Agriculture: Exploring Chinese investment opportunities in critical sectors across various Nigerian states.
  • Education & Youth Empowerment: Establishing scholarships and exchange programs to deepen innovation and technology skills among Nigerian youth.
  • E-Governance: Leveraging Chinese expertise to fully digitize sub-national parliamentary records and voting systems.

Ambassador Yu Dunhai commended the Conference of Speakers for its forward-thinking approach to governance. He reaffirmed the Chinese government’s readiness to explore mutual interests that would strengthen China–Nigeria relations, particularly at the state level.
