The Conference of the Speakers of State Legislatures in the country has condemned the continued massacre in the Southern Kaduna, Kaduna State and demanded for an immediate and lasting solution to the crisisThis was contained in a communiqué issued in Abuja after the emergency meeting of the body on the state of the nation and made available to news men.
The body in the communiqué read by the Chairman of the Conference and Speaker, Kebbi State House of Assembly Hon. Abdulmumini Ismaila Kamba however urged Nigerians to embrace peace at all times in the overall interest of the nation..It also commended the combine efforts of the nation’s security agencies in restoring peace in the North-East troubled by the Boko Haram insurgent.
According to the Communiqué “the conference commended President Muhammadu Buhari for heading to the provisions of the Constitution by transmitting power to the Vice President while proceeding on vacation.“The conference therefore prayed for the President’s quick recovery and enjoined all Nigerians to do same“The Conference also commended the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for his composure and resilient in piloting the affairs of the nation since the absence of President Buhari“The conference hereby condemns the killings and wanton destruction of properties that occurred in Southern Kaduna and urged Nigerians to be their brothers’ keepers“
The Conference congratulated the Speaker of the Imo House of Assembly Hon. Acho Ihim for emerging the President of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, and also announced that the speakers of Enugu, Edo and Akwa Ibom state assemblies were elected as Deputy Chairman, Financial Secretary and South-south Vice Chairman of the conference respectively. The Chairman stated that the conference was briefed on the progress made in the ongoing constitutional amendment and urged stakeholders to ensure the process was concluded on time.
